I was back in the city
Doing my sales work,
Talking to workers
On the bustling streets
And near the shops.
I was with my friend
Who taught me how to
Be both true and hard
About the big things.
It was just like always.
Mr. Einstein, can it be done?
It’s not an impossibility
Because the physics add up.
He replied , “At best it would
Require negative energy with
Paradoxes messing things up.”
Dime in the pay phone,
I dialed her number.
Then asked for my friend,
But she wasn’t home.
She died a long time ago.
I stopped by a bodega.
Little Latina was alone.
She looked into my eyes,
Pulled my face next to hers.
We both began to cry.
Mr. Einstein, it can be done!
Yes, we do it each night.
Jumping around back and forth
In the spacetime of our lives,
We revisit things we’ve done
And go places we’ve never been.

Even though he discovered that time is relative and not absolute in the universe, that it bends and stretches depending on the speed and strength of gravity of the observer, Albert Einstein said time travel is impossible for a number of reasons related to the laws of physics.
