Being Reminded Again

When I was a babe
My being was all set
By mom’s beating heart
And the taste of her milk
No words as of yet.

When I was a lad
My being was made new
By the smell of the rain
And the colors of the sea.
All notions were few.

When I was a teen
My being opened wide
By the poetry, prose
And harmony I heard.
Art concepts applied.

Being reminded again
I’m doing my best
Being is primary, then
I’ll learn the rest

When I was a man
My being was set fire
By smells of the city
And cries of the hungry.
Ideas inspired.

When I was a dad
My being was consumed
By money and possessions
And blunting of the senses.
Thinking still bloomed.

When I became gray
My being was informed
By understanding, insight
Knowledge and science.
Consciousness transformed.

Being reminded again
We’re doing our best
Being is primary, then
We’ll learn the rest
