Have it tucked away in a file
Carefully written, by pen and ink
Something that’s not done, haven’t seen in a while
Grandma was telling me about life, I think
See them every day, every way
Placed strategically on every object and wall
Sometimes just one, but often in an array
Signs, book covers, websites and apps use them all
Never got one, for athletics that is
Schools give them out, to kids that play
They put them on jackets and sweaters
A moment of pride, when families see them that way
A man, a woman, may be of them
Means they are learned, educated, studied
Something we all would like to become
Experts, specialists, always preoccupied
Letters, letters we have them in our lives
Where would we be without our letters
Started as symbols on walls in caves
Now we need them to preserve all that really matters
