On this summer’s day
I have come to the park to play
There are friends of old
None of which are cold
And respect to them I do pay
As the tunes play on
The food we brought is almost gone
And on the blankets we sit
So content that we could never quit
The game of life that we’ve learned
Just when things are swell
A different face seems to cast a spell
Over these friends I’ve always had
And this reaction does make me sad
For they laugh at this odd man
With this man I talk
While on a small journey we walk
And I find in many ways
He is like me these past few days
I wonder why my friends did not come too
Spring 1978
As a teenager, I was wide-eyed and naive. I never passed up an opportunity to learn or meet someone new. I loved my childhood friends and still do. They are an important part of who I am. This is a story about growing up and moving on.
